SEATTLE: FLASH PROTEST OF PORN STORE
A few weekends ago we had a showing of The Price of Pleasure and following that, we went down to a porn store/strip club across the street from Pike Place Market….which is one of the largest tourist attractions in Seattle. So you can go see the market, and buy some flowers, some produce, some seafood, watch vendors throwing large fish around….then you can go across the street and buy women, and by doing so, act to strengthen the enslavement and degradation of women.
A few days before this protest a few of us went in to check out the store and one of the videos that stood out was titled: “Chester Molest Her.” There was another one that stated in the description something along the lines of: “What do girls want to be when they grow up? Porn stars, of course!” Sickening to think of young girls aspiring to be porn stars. Then after viewing The Price of Pleasure, and everything that is unfolded in the course of that film, including information about how porn contributes to the sexual molestation of children…..I wanted to cry, to puke, to run, to scream, to pull out my hair….just in general to go ballistic…and I was not the only one in the room that felt all of of those things.
We took those feelings, and stood outside the porn store, and this video is part of what we did there. We met plenty of people that didn’t agree with us, and there were a few people that joined in off the street. For the time that we were there, puking out some of the rage, some of the shame, some of the tears, some of the crap that this society inflicts on us, that was liberating. That was refreshing. This is a movement that is just getting started, and already holds so much potential to change the way things are right now.
Pornography needs to be ENDED, this shit needs to be OVER. How can women truly be free, if this is the kind of degrading shit that we have to face every day? The time to just live with this, and live with this, and live with this, and live with this….NO MORE of that! It’s time to get real about the harm that porn does to society, in particular women and girls, and take an honest look at how porn contributes to a whole culture of women being treated as subhuman.
We’re just getting started here in Seattle….if you’re here, and if you’re sick of the way women are being held down and slammed backwards, then JOIN US!!! Stopping the war on women is what we aim to do….and we need many more people to get into this, and we need YOU to be part of this fight. Contact us at seattlestoppatriarchy@gmail.com
